City of Hobart Announces Plans for Next-Generation Amazon Data Center Campus

HOBART, Ind. (Nov. 25, 2025) The City of Hobart announces an agreement with Amazon for the development of a next-generation data center campus within the community. The agreement follows the regional economic development announcement issued on Nov. 25, 2025, and marks a major opportunity for long-term economic growth and investment for the city.

City officials say the project strengthens public services, increases municipal revenue, and positions Hobart as a regional leader in digital infrastructure.

Mayor Josh Huddlestun emphasizes the importance of working with a partner that aligns with community priorities.

“Listening to the concerns of residents, it was important to partner with a leading technology operator like Amazon that addresses the issues raised by our community,” Mayor Huddlestun said. “This development will immediately bring in tens of millions in revenue to our city. While other communities are looking at cutting services or raising taxes, we’ll be able to deliver relief to our citizens while creating opportunities for our youth, schools, parks, public services, and the entire community.”

Mayor Huddlestun notes that Amazon will fully fund all required infrastructure improvements as part of the agreement.

“It was important that Amazon cover the full cost of the infrastructure needed for this project, ensuring local residents are protected,” Huddlestun said. “Beyond the ongoing revenue that will help build Hobart into its true potential, this project will create thousands of construction jobs for our local skilled tradespeople while producing close to a thousand long-term jobs. This economic boost will help make our community viable today and into the future.”

Powering Indiana’s future: A partnership that benefits everyone

As part of this expansion, Amazon worked with NIPSCO to establish a first-of-its-kind energy agreement that benefits local residents and strengthens Indiana’s electric grid.

Through this partnership:

  • Amazon will pay all costs associated with serving its new data center campuses, including new infrastructure and power generation needs.

  • Current NIPSCO customers are protected from the cost of building new energy infrastructure to serve Amazon data centers.

  • The agreement will deliver an estimated $1 billion in cost savings to current NIPSCO electric customers over 15 years.

  • The project will add up to 3 gigawatts of new power generation, which goes beyond serving only Amazon's needs, improving grid reliability for communities across Northern Indiana.

This innovative model ensures that Amazon’s investment not only powers AI innovation but also helps strengthen Indiana’s energy resilience for decades to come.

Creating jobs and growing economic opportunity

Amazon’s investment will:

  • Create 1,100 new high-skilled jobs, including engineers, network specialists, and security and operations professionals.

  • Support thousands more jobs across the data center supply chain and in the local community, shortening commutes and boosting economic growth throughout Northern Indiana.

  • Contribute millions of dollars of tax revenue that funds schools, first responders, and essential community services.
