Northwest Indiana Forum Announces Regional Process for Indiana Redevelopment Tax Credit Applications
The Northwest Indiana Forum is encouraging communities, developers and economic development partners across Lake, Porter, La Porte, Newtown, Jasper, Pulaski, and Starke counties to identify and submit eligible projects for Indiana’s Redevelopment Tax Credit (RTC).
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) has lifted the hold on RTC and will begin accepting applications once again. As part of the renewed application process, the IEDC is asking that placemaking and quality-of-life projects be submitted through their regional economic development partners, with regional submissions due to the state by October 31, 2026, for a competitive review process.
To help prioritize projects based on alignment with Northwest Indiana’s regional strategy and overall regional impact, the Northwest Indiana Forum is establishing an earlier regional deadline for project submissions.
All projects seeking consideration through the Northwest Indiana Forum should be submitted by September 30, 2026.
“The return of the Redevelopment Tax Credit creates an important opportunity for Northwest Indiana to advance projects that can transform underutilized properties and strengthen the communities where people live, work and invest,” said Heather Ennis, President and CEO of the Northwest Indiana Forum. “Our regional process will allow us to identify the projects with the greatest potential impact and ensure that Northwest Indiana is presenting a strong, coordinated portfolio of investments to the state.”
The RTC is designed to support the redevelopment and rehabilitation of vacant and underutilized properties and can help make challenging projects more financially feasible.
The Forum encourages communities and project sponsors not to wait until the September 30th deadline to begin discussions. Early engagement will provide additional time to review projects, identify potential partnerships, and ensure submissions are positioned for consideration through the competitive state process.
Project submissions should include the appropriate RTC and Small Town Opportunity Incentive (STOI) application documents and project checklist forms, along with any supporting information requested as part of the regional review process.
Projects can be submitted online at www.nwiforum.org/rtcapplication. Please note that all general business development, expansion, and attraction projects will be submitted directly to the IEDC for consideration.
